Howling
A high-pitched sound often triggers a howl; many dogs howl at the sound of fire and police sirens. In addition, some dog owners have taught their dogs to howl on cue, such as the owner howling.

Howling is generally considered to be communication between pack members. It can mean a few different things, including locating other pack members or calling the pack in for hunting. Howling when distressed often means that someone else is upset, and some dogs howl when they’re alone or isolated from their family.
